December 2007 Volume 2 Number 11
|
| Greetings to our players, parents and friends! |
| Things We Don't Want at Practice |
|
Earrings, Bracelets and Things That Go "Ouch"
DGSC is not against personal expression, but we have to remind our parents and players that no jewelry (earrings, piercings, bracelets, rings, etc) is allowed at training sessions or games. These items represent significant safety issues that we cannot ignore.
Earrings can get caught in the netting, hair or clothes, impaled into a skull or scratch an eyeball. OUCH. A DGSC player cut her earlobe in half last season when her earring got stuck in a net. ICK.
Bracelets (whether string, rubber, chain or otherwise) may seem safe, but if a finger slides behind it... OUCH. Broken finger or worse. DOUBLE ICK.
And no, earrings cannot be taped; that does not prevent injuries. The posts go right through the tape, and the tape provides an even bigger thing to snag. Additionally, we cannot accept the "just had them put in" excuse. The holes won't close up in the length of a training session.
So remember - be responsible and leave all jewelry at home or in your bag. We want all of our players to graduate from the club with all of their eyes, earlobes, fingers, etc.
