2008 DGSC Scholarship Recipients
Dakota Gold joined the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation in 1999 to administer its scholarship program. This is a community scholarship to benefit all eligible members of the community; it is not a requirement to be an active Dakota Gold member. The scholarship requirements are:
Applicants who benefit from this award must be graduating high school seniors from the Sioux Falls area who have participated in Dakota Gold, Sioux Falls Soccer Association, or Sioux Falls high school soccer programs. Additionally, they must plan to attend an accredited college or university, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and demonstrate leadership through his or her role on a soccer team. Excellence in athletics or other extracurricular activities within the community and the Dakota Gold organization will also be evaluated by the selection panel.
According to federal law, Dakota Gold is not permitted to have a majority vote on the scholarship selection committee. Thus, the selection committee consisted of three members: one representing Dakota Gold and two others from the community.
Soccer is a community sport and many fine young athletes pass through our doors on their way to becoming full and participating members of the community. As in previous years, there were many worthy and deserving applicants in this years' review. We wish it were possible to award more scholarships to all the deserving applicants; alas, it is not possible, and many difficult decisions faced the review committee. We do hope; however, that regardless of whether or not an applicant received a scholarship, that their experiences in soccer and Dakota Gold, however brief, have enhanced their life experience and will benefit them in the future. Dakota Gold wishes all of our scholarship applicants and recipients the best in their future endeavors.
