Tim Cristian, Director of Coaching for Dakota Gold Soccer Club is pleased to present Tony Waiters' Byte Size Soccer program. This coaching program illustrates Dakota Gold's commitment towards the education and development of young players in the Sioux Falls community. Coach Cristian has designed a 12 week curriculum utilizing Mr. Waiters' program for all coaches of players Under 6 years old through Under 12 years old. The practices provide a quality curriculum to benefit the players and coaches by utilizing age appropriate training activities. They should help you in your preparation for your team's practices and consequently play a positive role in your team's preparation for games. These practice plans cover all aspects of the fundamentals of the game and should provide you with a good base of ideas to work from. Dakota Gold hopes that the use of these plans will result in practices that are more FUN and Exciting, as players work to develop new skills. When using these practice plans we encourage you to insert your own ideas to make the drills more fun, more difficult, or less complex, depending on the progress of your players. Use your imagination, be creative, design your own drill or practice using these plans as a foundation. Your players will be more receptive when you keep practices fresh and exciting. Some creative coaches even disguise an exercise they're repeating so it looks like a totally different practice to the players. Feel free to explore practice plans of older and younger age groups to build your base of ideas. Even professional teams still perform some of the drills in the U7 plans because they are simple and provide a change of pace from the more complicated activities. This keeps the training environment in a state of constant change, which keeps players tuned in and ready for more.
Dakota Gold's GrassRoots Academy uses Byte Size coaching to offer young players a great start in soccer skills. GrassRoots Academy Director, John Pagone, runs curriculum based sessions filled with games and activities that not only develop our young players' skills, but also encourage positive decision making.
Remember that the kids are there to play with the ball, so maximize their touches with the ball, keep it simple, keep them active, and most of all make it FUN!
Yours in Soccer, Tim Cristian Dakota Gold Soccer Club, Director of Coaching
